About Us

Learn about our passion for Maine Coons and our commitment to ethical breeding practices.

Our Story

Mindful Maine Coons Cattery got its start in late 2025. What began as a shared love for this breed turned into a commitment to do it right from day one — not grow into good practices over time, but build the cattery around them from the very first King and Queen we brought home.

What hasn't changed since day one is the standard we hold ourselves to. Every King and Queen in our program comes from WCF champion bloodlines, every kitten is born and raised inside our Murrieta, California home, and every family who brings one home gets our full support for the life of their cat. We're TICA (The International Cat Association) registered in 2026 and we've earned TICA's Outstanding Cattery Certificate — an independent, veterinarian-verified distinction that very few catteries pursue, let alone hold onto year after year.

We didn't get into this to run a business that happens to involve cats. We got into it because we love this breed, and we wanted to prove that a small, home-based program could meet the highest standard that exists for cattery care — not just claim to.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide everything we do

Love & Care

Every cat and kitten receives individual attention, love, and the highest quality care in our home environment.

Health First

Comprehensive health testing by BasePaws, proper nutrition, and regular veterinary care ensure our cats are healthy and thriving.

Excellence

We adhere to TICA and CFA standards, breeding for proper conformation, temperament, and breed characteristics.

Lifetime Support

Our relationship doesn't end at adoption. We're here to support you and your kitten for their entire life.

Our Breeding Philosophy

Quality over quantity, always

Comprehensive Health Testing

All of our breeding cats undergo extensive genetic and health testing by BasePaws before entering our program. We test for HCM (heart disease), PKD (kidney disease), and SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) to ensure we're producing the healthiest kittens possible.

Early Socialization

Our kittens are raised underfoot in our home, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and activities of daily life. They're handled daily from birth, ensuring they grow into confident, well-adjusted cats who love people and adapt easily to new homes.

Ethical Practices

We never overbreed our queens. Each female has adequate time to rest between litters, and we limit the number of litters per year. Our cats are family members first, breeding cats second. When a queen retires, she finds a loving pet home where she can enjoy her golden years.

Quality Focus

We maintain a small breeding program to ensure every cat receives individual attention and optimal care. This allows us to focus on quality—producing healthy, well-tempered kittens that truly represent the best of the Maine Coon breed.

A Day in the Life at Mindful Maine Coons Cattery

Not every Maine Coon breeder operates the same way, and the differences matter more than they might seem from the outside.

Health and socialization

Every cat is checked daily for signs of illness, parasites, or injury, and every kitten is handled, played with, and socialized from birth so they grow up confident around people.

Feeding and hydration

Fresh food and clean water, morning and night, for every King, Queen, and kitten in the home.

Litter box and facility upkeep

Litter boxes are scooped and sanitized throughout the day, and indoor and outdoor spaces are kept clean, odor-controlled, and free of hazards.

Isolation and birthing area maintenance

Our isolation space for new, incoming, or ill cats and our birthing area for queens and newborn kittens are kept climate-controlled, properly lit, and separated from the general cattery population.

Recordkeeping

Vaccination schedules, health records, and individual dietary or medical notes are logged and kept current for every cat in our care.

Grooming

Regular brushing sessions to keep coats healthy and mat-free, especially for our show-quality Kings and Queens.

None of this pauses for holidays, weekends, or convenience. It's the unglamorous, everyday work that makes the difference between a cattery that looks good in photos and one that's actually a healthy place for cats to live.

What Makes Mindful Maine Coons Cattery Different

Not every Maine Coon breeder operates the same way, and the differences matter more than they might seem from the outside.

Champion Bloodlines

Every kitten comes from WCF champion pedigrees with titled ancestors, not just a purebred parent or two.

Health-Tested Parents

Both parents are tested for SMA, PKD, and HCM, with regular echocardiograms to monitor heart health over time.

TICA Registered

Our cattery and every breeding cat are registered with both organizations, the two most respected cat registries in North America.

TICA Outstanding Cattery Certified

An independent, veterinarian-conducted inspection that most catteries never attempt, let alone pass.

Raised in Our Home

Every kitten is born and raised underfoot in our Murrieta, California home, handled daily from birth and socialized with children and other pets.

Lifetime Breeder Support

We don't disappear after the sale. We're here for questions about health, behavior, grooming, and care for the life of your cat.

Full Transparency

Health records, pedigrees, and pricing are shared openly, before you ever commit to a deposit.

When you put those pieces together, the difference isn't just marketing language — it's the difference between a kitten whose health and temperament were left to chance, and one whose foundation was built deliberately, generation after generation.

Our Mindful Maine Coons Cattery TICA Outstanding Cattery Certificate

TICA's Outstanding Cattery Certificate isn't a formality — it's the result of a demanding, independently verified inspection process that very few catteries choose to pursue, let alone pass. The evaluation is conducted in person by a licensed veterinarian, who scores the cattery against dozens of specific criteria across nine sections: Requirements, Health, Indoor Facilities, Outdoor Facilities, Maintenance, Isolation Room or Area, Birthing, Storage, and Records.

Each item is rated Excellent, Satisfactory, or Unsatisfactory, and a score of 75 or higher is required just to be eligible. But the real teeth of the process are in the fine print: any single Unsatisfactory rating anywhere on the form is an automatic disqualification, regardless of the overall score.

Passing the inspection is only half of it. To hold the certificate, we also sign and uphold TICA's Outstanding Cattery Code of Ethics — binding commitments that include health-guaranteeing every kitten, providing a written sales agreement for every transaction, requiring spay or neuter by 12 months of age, and vaccinating every kitten at least twice against Panleukopenia, Feline Rhinotracheitis, and Calicivirus before it ever leaves our home. The certificate must be renewed annually with a fresh, passing evaluation and a newly signed Code of Ethics.

We pursue this certification every year because our cats deserve a genuinely excellent life, and because our kitten families deserve independent, veterinary-verified proof of that — not just our word for it.

Our Mindful Maine Coons Cattery Health Testing Program

Health is the foundation of everything we do. Every breeding cat in our program — our Kings and Queens — is fully health tested and cleared before ever entering our breeding program, and testing continues throughout their breeding life.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

The most common heart disease in cats, screened through both DNA testing and regular echocardiograms.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

A genetic condition affecting skeletal muscles, identified through DNA testing to prevent affected kittens from being born.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

Screened for as a precaution, even though PKD is more commonly associated with Persian breeds.

Every breeding cat is also tested through BasePaws for a comprehensive genetic health panel, vaccinated against FVRCP, and dewormed regularly. Individual kittens aren't tested for genetic conditions themselves — but because both parents have been fully cleared, every kitten comes from the healthiest possible foundation. Parent health reports are available upon request.

Our Mindful Maine Coons Cattery Commitment to You

Buying a kitten is the start of a relationship, not the end of a transaction. Every family who brings home a Mindful Maine Coons Cattery kitten gets a TICA-registered pedigree, a written 1-year health guarantee, one month of complimentary Trupanion pet insurance, and lifetime breeder support for questions about health, behavior, grooming, and care.

We welcome visits to our Murrieta, California home, encourage questions before you ever commit to a deposit, and stand behind every kitten we place. That's what TICA Outstanding Cattery certification is supposed to mean in practice, and it's what we hold ourselves to every single day — inspection year or not.
